Primary 5 had a fantastic time designing and launching their own vinegar and bicarbonate of soda rockets in groups as part of their Space topic. Each team used 500ml water bottles and kept 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda the same while changing the amount of vinegar to see what would happen. The children discovered that mixing the two makes a gas called carbon dioxide, which builds pressure and pushes the rocket upwards. It was an exciting, hands-on way to learn about reactions, forces and fair testing. Well done P5!
