St Mary's Primary & Nursery School, Bellaghy, Magherafelt

Welcome

On behalf of the children, staff and governors of St Mary’s Primary School and Nursery Unit, I am delighted to welcome you to our school website.

St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School was established in 1964 and is situated in the middle of the town of Bellaghy. County Derry. Our Nursery Unit was opened in 2002, expanding our provision for the children of Bellaghy.

We believe that all children are life time learners. We know that children learn best when they feel happy, secure and well cared for. Therefore our first priority is the provision of strong pastoral care in a nurturing environment of catholic faith. We aim to develop in our children a passion and love of learning by providing an enriched, broad and balanced curriculum; that delivers a high quality, inclusive education for all, so that each may reach their full potential.

I sincerely hope that you will find our website to be an extremely useful resource, helping you to engage with your child’s educational journey through St Mary’s. Should you require any further information on admissions or would like to visit the school at any stage, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Mrs Mary McCann

Principal

P.1/2 Christmas Fun
Primary 5 Christmas Fun! Primary 5 have thoroughly enjoyed the lead-up to Christmas! We’ve been busy writing our own rhyming couplets in poetry for literacy, taking part in a fun-filled Christmas PE lesson, creating Christmas animations using Just2Easy and testing our knowledge with a Christmas table quiz. We’ve also loved getting creative — from making chocolate reindeer biscuits to lots of festive art activities, including drawing snow globes, Christmas trees and designing our own Christmas baubles. The celebrations wouldn’t be complete without enjoying a delicious Christmas dinner and finishing off with a cosy hot chocolate party. Primary 5 would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year!
Primary 2, 3 and 4 Christmas Show On Tuesday 16th December our Primary 2, 3 and 4 pupils performed their Christmas Recipe show for their families and friends. We are so proud of them for their effort over the past few weeks and their confidence performing on stage. Every child got a chance to come up to the microphone and there were lots of proud faces in the audience. What a way to get us into the festive spirit!
Primary 4 trip to the War Museum Primary 4 had a fantastic visit to the NI War Museum, bringing their ‘Through the Eyes of a Child’ to life. The children explored real artefacts and stories, helping them better to understand what life was like for children during wartime. A memorable and meaningful learning experience!
Merry Christmas from Primary 4! Primary 4 pupils would like to wish all our families and the whole school community a very happy Christmas! We hope your holidays are filled with joy, laughter and special time together! Thank you for all your support this year and we look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year!
Nursery Sing Along Concert We were delighted to welcome the families of the boys and girls to our sing along this morning. There were lots of smiles and plenty of festive cheer. Well done boys and girls.
P7 Secret Santa! P7 had a fantastic time taking part in our Secret Santa exchange today. There was lots of smiles, excitement and thoughtful gifts shared. Special mention to Ciarnán, who very kindly brought in delicious homemade cupcakes for the class - they went down a treat and very much appreciated by all. Well done to all P7 spreading the Christmas spirit!
P7 Surprise Visitor! P7 boys and girls were delighted to welcome a surprise visit from Derry goalkeeper Odhrán Lynch. They thoroughly enjoyed showing off their skills and picking his brain about all things Derry GAA and wished him all the very best in his recovery from injury.
Santa’s Flying Visit to Bellaghy Lunchtime at St. Mary’s was full of festive magic when the sound of helicopter blades announced a very special visit… Santa and Mrs. Claus made a flying entrance to see all the children on the nice list! The excitement was off the charts, and the smiles said it all. A huge thank you to Specialist Group for the amazing memories created for our children.
